Well obviously none of us here are going to be terribly interested if it's not Mac-compatible. That said, Apple has a lot to lose, so I hope they adapt and compete well.

So far, Microsoft's Hardware was always perfectly Mac compatible...

    Then it has no meaning.

Honestly, that's a very stupid thing you said.

Wait, for something to have meaning it must have emotions attached to it ? Whatever happened to cold objective debate ?

Meaning is derived from the content, not from the emotions behind the statements. We're in a debate of facts, not in a subjective discussion. Emotionality has no place in the text.

Or am I not understanding what you mean here ? My post was objective in that I was not refusing to view the evidence, I just found his evidence to be contradictory and self-refuting and thus not applicable. I stated it as such and further explained when told I was "refusing to see" something that just wasn't there to begin with.

There was nothing to "cool down".

He did provide citation for the same; the engadget article.
But due to its inception being an Engadget based article, I wouldn't base any conclusions on that.

But yes, he did cite the argument.

His statement was not an argument. It was as a fact. And the Engadget article is not a citation to support the fact since it has been refuted by CNET, according to the very source AppleCorps used initially, TechCrunch.

oh great. so those mac users who are possibly interested in actually getting a legitimate version now have to pay a lot...

...kinda puts one of getting a legitimate version...
Come on, who really buys legal copies of Windows?

A few years ago I tried to buy a legal copy of Windows 2000 (the software I was loading required 2000 and would not work on XP). I started off at CompUSA and after a few more stores I ended up contacting Microsoft directly and they thought I was crazy. They were totality confused by my request to buy a legal copy of Windows. They referred me to the restore discs that came with a Dell we had. Well, that didn't really help much. And then they actually recommended that I borrow a copy from a friend.

And here I was trying to buy a legal copy of Windows from MS, granted it wasn't the latest version (however XP had just come out, so 2000 wasn't that old) and MS was telling me to pirate the software.

Yeah it was on a touch not a computer.

If you have entered a password and the app downloads, and continue to browse the app store it doesn't require a repeat password entry until you sleep your iPod touch/iPhone.

Anybody got geekbench results yet?

Australia store has been updated, but won't go through to "buy it now". I want to check the BTO prices on it!

EDIT: also glad to see that the AUD price has dropped a bit. Still, the base item is AUD 1399 so that's over USD 1,500 - how does that compare for you Americans?

you seem defensive about something ... please explain his bit role in Al-Queda some more for me

    Oh man.

Al-qaeda quickly fell apart after the war on terror and became what is known as leaderless resistance.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaderless_resistance

This kind of movement has top leaders, but for the most part any actions taken by the collective "al-qaeda" (the term quickly became a brand name adopted by many small, loosely-if-connected-at-all cells) are carried out by cells with little if any intercell communication. In short, in this kind of movement, the leaders barely matter if at all. Its the idea that generates the actions, not the leaders.

No, it looks like AT&T is going to get ride of T Mobiles 3G so make room for 4G LTE.

Its really not a bad idea....turns the purchase of T Mobile into something more then just one time growth. Also unless everyone followed Nokia with pentaband 3G devices, it would start to become a hassle.

    http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=7762

True, long term it is a good plan. Though it looks like since the announcement that new phones becoming available on t-mobile have 850/1900 as well as 1700. Looks like it part of their plan to get devices out to t-mobile users that can work on both networks to be ready for this type of change.

Anyway, regardless of the buy out or not, once exclusivity ended it was only a matter of time before Apple added more bands to the iPhone. The qualcomm chip they use now supports all these bands anyway.

And since WINE/Codeweavers isn't Windows, it merely lets Windows applications run under OS X, it isn't troubled by the 200,000 Windows viruses, trojans etc. lurking out there.

Well... actually there are some viruses and trojans that are able to operate within the Wine environment. :p

Of course as far as I know, so far it's always been a case of "Hmm... I wonder if I can get worm xxxxxx to run under Wine?" :D

I don't know if I should laugh or cry ...

People are freaking out because of a service that is 5.4 cents a day
People are calling their days ruined because of a service is $1.6 a month
People are crying foul because of a service for $20 a year

Get real people - no company owes you anything for free. If you are cheap and won't pay, just don't sign up - but don't run around crying claiming that you deserver everything for free.

right now its reformatting into a RAID, boss wanted to RAID it. lost 2 frames no biggie. here's what i got before that

    [22:05:44] pleted 2500 out of 250000 steps (1%)
    [22:54:37] Completed 5000 out of 250000 steps (2%)

so thats about 50 mins per frame. i was thinking maybe that was due to the clock speed being 2.26 or the HT. the old 3ghz MP does a frame in the low to mid 40s

wont get to test until tomorrow

oh wow. so wait, whiterabbit's mp was 2.26 or 2.66? based off that, i guess 2.66. hey maybe the raid will help some?

To the poster above me, Apple has been know to downgrade some specs for an "upgrade" and in this case, Intel is forcing there hand. If they want to move onto the i5 chips, they can't used nVidia's GPU which is rated better then Intel built in solution. And since there aren't any other integrated solutions and the Air doesn't have room for a dedicated card, it will likely end up like the 13'' MBP, losing some graphic performance.

Users will need to decided if GPU power or CPU power is more important after this new upgrade, alone with price, as the current MBA will likely drop.

As a current MPA owner, I'm glad Apple is finally moving away from the Core 2 Duo's they have been on for so long. Heck I could upgrade my Mac Mini which was my first Mac from 2006 and I'd have a Core 2 Duo, not quite as new of a C2D and the GPU would be greatly lacking, but I can still upgrade if I want.

But once Apple jumps to Sandy Bridge, even if for a generation of Macs we lose graphic performance, we'll make it up with Ivy Bridge and our CPUs will be more powerful. Plus PC specs won't seem so far ahead.

Although I was shopping for a PC for a department at the University I work for and finding a GPU in a PC that worked with their rendering software was rather hard. PC makers just don't care about GPUs as much as they used to.

The ballooning lines sucks. It happened at the Spectrum too. We were talking about how the line was getting wider the closer it got to 5pm. Obviously many people holding a place for others. It sucks but that's the way these things go.

It's interesting as it seems like the common theme here is that there weren't enough of the at&t models to go around. Someone in our line said that a local at&t store only had 10 iPads in stock for the line.

    Pre-orders Apple! Pre-orders!

The 3G iPod did not have physical feedback, and they worked.

They most certainly did have physical feedback. You had to touch them to activate the buttons or drag your finger across the scroll wheel to use it. This would constitute a tactile feedback, even if there is no click. What people are questioning is the usability of an interface where you don't have any tactile feedback. I think that the answer is that there would have to be visual feedback to replace it, thus the further issue that you couldn't simply use this iPod in your pocket or use it very safely while driving. However, if we consider that this is meant to be the video / ebook iPod, where you'll be staring at the screen anyway, this is much less of an issue.

But the problem here is everyone is assuming that none-touch means you don't even touch the iPod. Did it occur to anyone that it means you don't have to touch the screen? This allows Apple to put a more durable transparent cover over the entire face of the iPod.

Think about it - a nice smooth seamless iPod face. When you put your finger over the display, the controls appear. Your finger touches the cover, but not the screen underneath. This allows for easy cleaning, and protection of the actual screen.

What you're describing is far less revolutionary, and wouldn't really constitute a none-touch interface. The current displays all have a durable, transparent cover over them, and they still get scratches and finger prints from handling. I think the reason that this interface idea is so exciting is that it offers the possibility of having a full screen for viewing without needing to worry about the act of touching the screen for controls making the screen dirty so you can't watch.
