I presume it's a similar notion to the way video games utilize "3D stereo sound" -- the cue will be in relation to the position to the item's placement on the screen. (As it says in the original post.)
So if you have a window on the extreme left side of your screen, you'll hear VoiceOver out of the left speaker; if it's in the middle, you'll hear it equally in both, etc.
EDIT: Heeeeee. Much better explanation posted quicker than my meager attempts. Clearly Chef Medeski is a much better person than I should ever hope to be!
Well... I'm not the Demi-god.... yet :D

You can find it on interfacelift.
YES! That is my favorite wallpaper of all time! I have been using it for a long time now. I also use it on my iPhone with Parallex and it is sexy.

Magnesium would be cool, but I thought it was more expensive than aluminum...strange. I'm probably wrong though.
I remember lighting thermite with strips of Mg in chemistry class. No iPod is going to burst into flames though, because the material will certainly have to be an alloy or at least coated.

The difference compared to the old one is to small. I assume that many iMac users with an iMac 2007/2008/2009/2010 don't buy a new one.
I assume you're reading the chart wrong. The new i5 is faster than the old i7, even though the i7 has hyperthreading but the i5 doesn't. That's pretty huge. It doesn't look like the new i7 has been benchmarked yet.
The processor upgrade in the new 27 inch line is just a marginal upgrade from the 27 inch core i7 2.93ghz 11,3 generation.
Based on what? Are there benchmarks out for the new i7 yet?
I do agree with you that it doesn't make sense for most people to upgrade from the previous generation, but I tend to feel that way about sequential updates in general. But this does look like it has the potential to be a nice improvement, and I think the TB ports allow the new machines to compete with the MPs in some ways they never have before.

Im glad to see that some uni's are seeing more mac users, over here most people still cant afford a laptop, so they are forced to use the open computer labs.. that feature.. you guessed it.. Dells. I was the only one in the entire computer science department that had a mac.. But im hoping the trend to move away from a singular platform eventuall changes that.

Wear black armbands with a white Apple logo on them :)
Rocketman, does that mean that you're going to the FCP Power Tools workshop or the keynote, or both? I actually do have a black sweatband that I could wear if I remember to bring it. I plan on getting in line for the keynote early, so look for the 18 y/o idiot wearing the black armband.

Do you know how many of those suckers would have to be placed to track a jogger running thru Central Park? maybe hundreds easily if they are limited to 60ft.
sure, make light of it. but do i want to be able to be stalked by every vision-impaired tom, dick, and hannibal who otherwise couldn't follow me within a 60 foot radius? I don't think so.
next some evil corporation will come up with an mp3 player that not only can track you at such close distance, but also--oh, the humanity--send you a song to distract you even more. Think "Don't Look Back," 1965, by the Temptations, or the later version by Springsteen. Sure, we'll listen to our music idols--only to be stabbed in the back.

I'm confused.... how is he arrogant?
I think some people just hate the message, or anything that reminds them of something they're not but wish they were.....
I don't see how he's not arrogant. The message from Justin always seems to go something like... "Oh you get viruses, oh, ouch, that sucks, because, um, I don't."
You know, on second thought, you're right, he's modest.

While it shows that Princeton is getting more macs is partially good news. It shows that Macs are back in fashion, unlike when I was in college where mac were considered for only people who didn't want to learn how to use a computer, and the person with the Dell or Alienware was considered hip. But this is still a bad side because it still reconfirms the current myth "While Macs are in general better then PCs, only rich people can afford for the luxury." Princeton has a reputation of its students full of rich kids. So they are getting MacBooks with their Fancy Mercedes. So this news shows that Macs are now trendy but it also make them seem out of reach of the common man. (While my non-sciencetific price research has shown that per-feature Macs are better price) Compared to other prebuilt systems.

Only question. Why?
Some say Apple need to buy Netflix. Have those of you even considered what Netflix charges for monthly streaming?
$8
Apple will never let customers eat that much for so little. The day Apple buys Netflix, DVDs would stop, and streaming would go up to $30 a month.
Promised.
Agree. If Apple bought Netflix they'll have to raise prices. Netflix is inexpensive, Apple is typically premium.
Also, Netflix Inc is quite expensive ($12B) and other than a subscriber base, I'm not sure if they have technology or business model that isn't too hard to duplicate...at least nothing strategic to Apple. P.

Yeah, I think they knew from the first day of launching the iPhone 4 that there was no way they would be able to launch the 5 on time so they purposely held back on the white one to keep interest in the 4 while we have to wait longer.
They planned it this way
I believe you're exactly correct!
However my theory is just a bit different.
I think they blew it so bad with the white phone, that by the time they finally got it "good enough" they shelved it.
Then when it became apparent that there would not be an iPhone 5 in June or July, they dusted off the white phone to foist off on their customers.
Apple always seeking the spotlight and forever the master marketers, see this as a way to buy time. It will give them an opportunity to fix the problems their having with iPhone 5.
The new target date of Nov or Dec is their focus. One that hopefully will not drag on till Q1 of 2012.

I'd like to see something new in the iPad other than the standard "thinner, lighter" junk. Yes, the iPad 2.0 upgraded the RAM (to a whopping 512!) and faster CPU...but I'd like more/better functionality...more built-in (free) apps...stereo speakers...better screen resolution...and larger baseline storage (32GB is needed....64GB would be awesome)

Just curious on what everyones process at BB was. I walked in and signed a sheet of paper with barcodes and a picture of the iPhone 4. I paid 50 for a GC and they put my name down on a list for a 9am appointment on launch day. I just want to see if BB has the same procedures everywhere else.
Mine was exactly the same, except they did not schedule an appointment for me. Rather, they just told me to stop by the store on the 24th to pick up my phone.

What are the odds of these being included with FCPX? Or are they more likely add-ons through the store? Maybe $150 and 50 respectively.....
PS - I'm happy it's going to the app store because I'm assuming this means no 50GB of data to fill up my SSD.

I can't help but wonder what the folks over at AVID are thinking of the new Final Cut Pro X. They are either terrified, or they have huge smiles on their faces thinking about all the new users they might be picking up this summer.
I saw a tweet yesterday from someone at the SuperMeet who said they saw a couple of Avid reps leaving the FCP X demo smiling. And based only on this brief preview of FCP X I doubt that is an exaggeration. I also heard that the crowd was split about 50/50 between people loving it and people being a bit apprehensive.
I had a chance to watch the full presentation this morning and some things looked very promising (compound clips, auditioning, clip metadata, new audio levels and key framing) while other things I'm less than sold on (magnetic timeline, digging through tons of footage in the new browser, possibly more mouse-centric interface, etc.,).
Can't say anything good or bad for sure though until it actually ships and gets into the wild.

That sounds pretty minor compared to the US. Might I suggest a visit to LA, Chacago, NYC or large southern city so you can get a sense what goes on here?
I do have a sense of what's going on there.
Norway is a small country with only 5M citizens in the whole country (600K in the capital city). The land area is about the same size as the state of California. Most phenomenons would seem minor compared to the US. But I guess the fact that almost anyone can afford to buy food for an entire month or two in advance if necessary, makes mass looting Chicago-style far less likely.

Ya. Just like Apple went pro-consumer with $.99 songs instead of buying the entire CD. Apple is not good for the consumer. Nopes. Trust me, its not.
Totally, cause Apple's video content pricing mirrors it's song's. Oh wait?! Apples and Oranges dude...lets make a really simple example
Netflix: 7.99 Unlimited Streaming*

Getting tired of these incessant 660mb downloads.
But I finally figured out how Apple gets you to keep updating... they always promise a battery fix along with the other crap you really don't care about. By now I should be running for 30 days on a single charge.
